ODP OVERVIEW

MISSION:
Alabama Soccer Association's Olympic Development Program identifies, trains, and provides opportunities for the top level player and those players striving to reach elite levels to compete at the regional and national level.

The Olympic Development Program acts as a supplement to club soccer, giving players opportunities to play with and against the best, while providing them exposure at the regional, national, and even international levels.

Our ODP Coaching Staff is comprised of coaches at the club, high school, and college levels who are nationally licensed, committed to teaching the Region 3 Style-of-Play, and to the development of each player.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

WHO IS IT FOR: Players born between 2007 and 2002 are eligible for ODP this season. *Select 2008 birth year players may participate.

HOW ARE PLAYERS IDENTIFIED & EVALUATED: All players registered through ASA in the above age groups may tryout. Players are evaluated based on their performance in executing the ODP Style of Play. This method of playing the game is developmental in nature teaching purposeful possession with each position having a specific role to perform. To learn more about this way of playing click here.

The following ways describe how players are identified and invited to the program

  1. Tryouts - an open tryout period takes place between September & December.
  2. Scouting - players may be identified through the scouting system (members of the ODP Coaching Staff) and can be directly invited into the State Pool for an age group.
  3. 2018 Region Camp Invitees will receive invitations to join the pool as long as they attend 1 of the 4 Tryout events.

*All invitations into the State Pool are at the Technical Director's discretion

All other players must participate in tryouts including those who made last year's pool but did not receive an invitation to attend Region Camp

The youngest age groups, 9-12 year olds, are encouraged to participate in our Youth Development Program (YDP)

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM COST?

Click here to see a breakdown of the estimated yearly cost to participate. Scholarships are available to those in need.

Alabama Soccer Association understands that conflicts will arise. Players must register and attend at least one Pool Training Event to be considered for the State Team. After the State Pool training sessions/events, about 14-22 players for the older age groups will be selected in each age group to represent the 'State Team'. For any age group where there is a deep pool of talent, and especially the younger age groups (2005s, 2006s, & 2007s), there may be two or three teams.
